What to Expect When you’re Expecting Eggs
Join us on an epic adventure of chicken coop construction and endless remodeling to meet the demands of a plucky flock of feathery b*tches in pursuit of huevos rancheros.
Are my methods unsound?
When you’re designing a coop for your chickens, here are a few key points to keep in mind:
- Chickens do not care what it looks like
- Design the coop for you, not them
- Keep your options open – ask things like “Why can’t this wall be a door?”
- Chickens don’t have the brains, thumbs, or teeth to escape
- Build to keep things OUT
“One can never say a chicken coop is ever truly finished. Rather, it is simply as it is at the time which is now.”

Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out.
